NAME: Ellie Kinsey AGE: 10
INSTRUMENT(S): Drums, Guitar.
ABOUT ME:
I've been coming to Ricky's School of Rock for about 3 years now. I joined the first RockJam session and am still doing it today.

In RockJam, I play drums and I sing. I have 1:1 lessons in drums with Leo and guitar with Paul at Ricky's School of Rock as well.

I have passed my Grade 3 RockSchool exam in drums and also my Grade 3 RockSchool exam in guitar.

I've made loads of friends at Ricky's with people who like the same music as me. I like Paramore (Hayley Williams is my hero) and also like My Chemical Romance, Green Day and The Sex Pistols.

NAME: Isaac Ehdieb AGE: 18
INSTRUMENT(S): Guitar
ABOUT ME:
I'm currently studying Popular music (BTEC) at Leeds College of Music, where I learn about making my musical knowledge practical!

I've gained a shed load of experience to say the least! My goals as an aspiring musician are to find my own voice on my instrument and work in a band creating music I love.

I come to Ricky's School of Rock not only to enhance my knowledge of the guitar, but (and more importantly) how to apply it all to real situations. It's all about making dreams into a reality! And Ricky is definately a man that can; he's guided me through all of the problems I've experienced with the guitar, and to that end I esteem him greatly.

The whole team at RSOR are none more than friendly, warm-welcoming people who are good at what they do. After being a student for nearly 3 years there has never been a week without lessons to be learnt.

NAME: KAZ OWCZAREK AGE: 50
INSTRUMENT(S): GUITAR
ABOUT ME:
My name is Kaz Owczarek and I took up the guitar 5 years ago at the age of 55.
I have always loved guitar music since I saw the Shadows play at the Ritz in town in the sixties.

I wanted to play like Hank Marvin, but my dream was shattered when a friend brought a guitar to school.
He let me have a try, and when he saw me struggling with it, he said that my hands were too fat and short to play the guitar.
Foolishly this stuck with me for 40 years till my long held aspirations got the better of me and I followed my son to Ricky's School of Rock.

I have now been coming here for 5 years and get a real buzz from every lesson.
However that's the easy bit!
Learning to play the guitar is a battle on many fronts.
These conflicts are mainly in your brain, with yourself, your moods, your time pressures, your family and many more, including sore fingers if you have time off.
Many times I've thought of giving up, perhaps my fingers are after all, just not up to it, but the dream comes in little stages, like when that little riff you've been practising for ages just clicks.
It's like scoring a goal at football or hitting a perfect shot at golf.

Last week, my goal of being able to play 'Stairway to Heaven' went forward leaps and bounds, after Ricky showed me new techniques and finger positions.

Ricky's School of Rock does not only teach Rock guitar, but they've taught me jazz, samba, gypsy jazz, swing and lots more, including the theory of music.

I like all types of music and like to play classical guitar and Spanish guitar as well as acoustic rock.
I would recommend anyone to come to Ricky's School of Rock, but beware learning the guitar is not an easy ride, you will need to learn patience with yourself and fortitude to keep going, even when you think you're going nowhere.

If you've ever seen Paul Simon's hands and see how well he plays with those fat, grubby fingers then if he can do it then we all can.
I only wish I'd seen him when i was fifteen!
